Book Vs. Movie

We all know that Hollywood decides to create movies based on our favorite authors books. I'm usually the one who will not see the movie if I have read the book. The book is always better in my opinion, but I could be wrong. For example, I finally saw a movie based of a book...the Hunger Games. I enjoyed the book but thought the movie was missing a lot of details. Tell me, do you enjoy the movies based off book? Do you watch the movie if you read the book?

I absolutely will see the movie, after I read the book if I can. I prefer to read the book before the movie, but occasionally I find the book to a movie I liked, (my example would be Shogun by James Clavell). I agree that the books are usually much better than the movies, but there are a few exceptions, such as The Green Mile by Stephen King. That movie is just like the book, all the characters were just as described and the movie followed the book almost word for word.

My answer is I like movies, but I love books, and I would rather curl up with a good book than watch a movie anytime.

While I love to watch movies, I generally like the book better because an author has a novel's length of time to let you know the characters and their justification. In a film there is 90 minutes to 3 hours.

I do enjoy movies based off books. I even love movies that are nothing like the books they are based off of. Another Stephen King example: The Shining. Basic plot and character names were the same, but the rest was completely different. However I admit, that in this case, it is some of the Stanley Kubrick's imagery that I see in my mind's eye, even when I think of the novel.

Sometimes I have never heard of the book until the film comes out. For example when I watched Shutter Island, only by the credits did I learn that it was based off a novel written by Dennis Lehane. I have no problem reading a book after I watched the film. I just look at it as a different art form so certain things will be different.
